Seeker
by Jack McDevitt
The last novel I read by Mr. McDevitt, I panned. I really disliked that the plot was virtually identical to A Talent for War (which was a good book!). I even went so far as to speculate that this book would stink, too. Well, I was wrong. This is an excellent book and and exciting story mixed liberally with mystery, mayhem, hard astrophysics and humor.
Once again, Alex Benedict, the Finder of Lost Antiquities, goes in search of the ultimate find, namely the Lost Colony. With the unwavering assistance of his faithful sidekick, Chase, he runs around the universe looking for a lost civilization that's been lost for 6000 years. The story is told from Chase's perspective and gives it a unique look at the situations involved from a decidedly female perspective...again not something you find all that often in science fiction.
Unlike Mr. Benedict's other mysteries, this one ends well. The bad guys are revealed and meet with poetic, if not penal, justice. The Lost Colony.....wait.....that would be telling. This one is one I recommend. So read it and find out what happens.
